Default Minipet as Loot Collectors

Firstly, sorry if this has been posted before. I searched and found nothing

I was thinking that minipets simply have no use other than bragging rights. I've heard people say they're "stupid" etc. for this very reason. As a result, I thought that maybe minipets could collect dropped loot for us.

Reasons for this could include:

1. When trying for the Master's reward on timed missions, collecting loot can take time, especially if it is scattered all over the place. If your minipet were to collect the loot for you, you would be able to focus more on the task at hand

2. Sometimes people can miss the fact that an item dropped (as a result of the message on-screen being pushed up by other messages or simply not seeing it). I was in a party with someone who had a black dye drop, but didn't see it. Later another party member went to collect it when the allocated time to the first owner was up

3. Often if someone in your party gets a gold or green drop, regardless of how much one of their spells or attacks may be needed, they stop and run to pick up their drop. It can be extremely frustrating when in large battles and people's paranoia gets the better of them

I understand that a problem may arouse in the fact that people might not want all the loot their minipet collected for them. A solution to this could be that minipets have a temporary inventory during missions etc. Once the mission is over and the party is returned to town, a window could pop up showing all the loot collected, allowing a person to choose what loot they want.

So that's it Please state your opinions or suggestions on this idea

I would personally love this, although it might be hard to implement. Especially with GW:EN and GW2 going on as well.

Don't you get a window with unclaimed items at the end of a mission anyway? I don't think there's any point in it but maybe that's just me. It has no inherent effect apart from maybe a few coins here or there.

Soon people will be screaming for minipets to become party members. Sigh.

Whoops, forgot something.

Yes, you do get a window at the end for unclaimed items, but those are only items that are still "yours." If the time limit has expired on an item because you haven't seen it you don't get that window.

Thanks for an idea though, because the minipet "inventory" window could work exactly like that Unclaimed Items window, just with an option of you being able to choose whether your minipet collects the loot or not.

Yes...this could be implemented without the aid of minipets, but it would be so much funner having minipets running around collecting loot for you. Put that stinking Varesh to work I tell you! :P

While difficult to implement and unlikely to happen this would be useful. The Unclaimed Items box does not hold ALL the items from the whole mission. Could be exploited using minipet as extra storage But i'm all for the idea. But another downside is it gives a disadvantage to newer players and since GW is about skill level not hours played, may not be in practice but it says on the box, I think this feature is opposed to this.

/signed but 1 problem with this is that if your pet picks up an item, and you drop it. Anet will have to do something that prevents your pet from picking it up over and over

So how about they just change it so that items don't expire? That way others don't get them and they all appear in the window, and it wouldn't require any major changes either.

Dr.thug that could be easily fixed with an option such as "Do not pick up dropped loot." I understand this can be exploited as extra storage, but since it's only during a mission it may not be such a big deal.

Togira I'm not sure if I'm interpreting what you said correctly, but are you saying that people without minipets will be at a disadvantage? If so, it wouldn't be a major thing. New players don't get much loot, and usually have alot of time to pick up what they do get too

As I said earlier, it would give people a reason to own a minipet. Some people feel cheated at getting a useless thing that runs around, on their birthday.

The changing of the unclaimed items rules could work, but wouldn't minipets be more fun?

This could even be implemented as a second birthday present (or has a second birthday present already been decided on? )

I guess so. I'm one of those people who feels he has minipets for no apparent reason. So yes, it would be good to have a use for them. And since I can't think of anything better, I'll make my peace with you on this one.

All this will cause is people to b*tch because they will say "oh well its not FAIR since i dont have a mini-pet" and you know how that goes :/

Also, i dont think its THAT big of a problem to pick up your own things, this is just another idea that could be summed up in one sentence:

"PLEASE BABY US MORE ANET!!"

If your character has spent 365 days picking up loot by hand, I think they deserve it.

Personally I'm one of those paranoid people who rushes off to pick up good drops. I avoid that whenever possible, but I'm a very poor man (70k is the richest I've ever been at once) and wipes for no reason have occurred (once in FoW we died in the temple of war, even though there were no enemies in miles and no Eternals were harmed).

It will also help when you do quickspeed farms, and would rather do two minutes doing the run, then re-entering instead of two minutes doing the run and an additional minute for looting.

It'd be interesting if, maybe minipets only have this ability if your account earned them and bought minipets can't do this (though knowing ANet with how, say, minutes spent drunk prior to title implementation didn't count, then all people who earned minipets already will not be able to get this feature since they haven't logged this thing yet). It would cause whining, but hey. We were loyal enough to stick with GW for a full year, I feel in some ways ANet should reward older, more loyal players.

Hmm, interesting idea. If heard variations on this before, but never linked to mini-pets.

I doubt it will ever be implemented, but I see nothing against it!

(for those who want the option to still pick up stuff, simply put away your pet during the mission)

Hm... it's true that there is the unclaimed item window.
But gold is not collected at the end of the mission.

You'll notice that, in cinematics, you'll hear the 'coin drop sound' when the camera goes back to a place where gold was left behind.

I would agree as long as minipet work just like the unclaimed items window.

THat is, if you don't pick the items next time you get to an outpost, you lose them.

Just ask Mahk the toy maker to tweak them to gather some stuff. He was able to magically change all the Varesh miniatures all over the world, after all.

Although...

I'd rather see the minipets picking up the gold drops only. No inventory problems, no jealousy from those without a minipet - the gold is automatically shared within the party anyhow, and leave you to concentrate on the item drops.

But mostly, it'd just be so darn cute with a whole load of little minipets running around trying to beat the other minipets to reach that '104 gold' drop.

Yeah! Thay would be even funnier if their voices where pitched up.

Imagine a Shiro, a Rurik a Varesh with voices like those you get after breathing helium running to a pile of gold.
